The "One Lens for Life" Scenario

Hey folks, let's break out of the technical talk for a second and have some fun with a classic hypothetical.

You're faced with the "one lens for life" scenario. A mysterious benefactor is going to fund all your photography projects forever, but there's a catch: you can only use one single lens for the rest of your life. No exceptions. The camera body can be whatever you want/upgrade over time, but the lens mount is fixed.

What lens do you choose and why?

  • Are you grabbing the trusty nifty fifty for its versatility?
  • Are you a 35mm fan who loves to "see the world" naturally?
  • Do you lock in a 24-70mm f/2.8 to cover the most ground?
  • Or something more niche, betting on a specific style for your entire career?
No wrong answers, just curious what your go-to would be when it's your only option. The reasoning is the best part!

I'll start: I'd probably go with a 35mm f/1.4. It's wide enough for environmental shots and tight enough for decent portraits. It forces me to move my feet and be part of the scene.

My choice would be my current "security blanket" lens. - The Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO lens. It is so good and so versatile that I sometimes forget to take other lenses with me.
