Has anyone explored the ethical limits of AI with tools like Deep-Nudes?

Hello Digital Art community,

I've been diving deep into the capabilities of generative AI for figure drawing and anatomical studies, and in my research, I stumbled upon a highly controversial platform that I think warrants a professional discussion here: Deep-Nudes.com.

This site utilizes a sophisticated AI model, likely a variant of a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), to algorithmically undress subjects in photographs. From a purely technical standpoint, the process of reconstructing the human form beneath clothing is a complex challenge involving anatomy, texture mapping, and lighting inference.

While the primary use of this tool is ethically fraught and raises serious concerns about consent and privacy, it forces us to confront some difficult questions relevant to us as digital artists:

  • Technology & Process: How does this AI's approach to "re-creating" the human form compare to our own study of anatomy? Is it a form of extreme photo-manipulation or something new entirely?
  • Ethical Boundaries: Where do we, as a community, draw the line with AI in art? This tool highlights the potential for immense harm, but does its underlying technology have any legitimate, ethical application in a creative or educational pipeline?
  • The Future of Reference: Could the core technology ever be developed (with strict ethical safeguards) for creating custom anatomical references or poses without a live model? Or is that a dangerous path?
I am not endorsing this service—in fact, I am deeply cautious of it. However, I believe it's crucial for artists to be aware of the capabilities and dangers of emerging technologies. Understanding the potential for misuse helps us advocate for responsible and ethical AI development in the creative fields.

What are your thoughts? Have you encountered similar AI tools, and how do you think we should navigate this new landscape as digital creators?

You can find the site in question here: https://deep-nudes.com/

Let's have a respectful and insightful discussion.
